Laptop-Computer Equipment Insurance
Coverage for laptop and other computer equipment may be purchased for direct physical damage to the system or one of its components (CPU, printer, battery pack, and carrying case). It is the same coverage provided for all other University business property and is subject to the same terms, conditions, and exclusions.
To purchase coverage, complete the Insurance Application for Computer Equipment.
Examples of covered damage/loss
- The unit is accidentally dropped while carrying it from your car to your home. The resulting damage to the system would be covered by insurance.
- The computer is stolen from your locked car or office.
Examples of damage/loss not covered
- If you leave your car or office unlocked and the computer is missing, there is no coverage. These units are very attractive targets for theft, particularly at airport check points. Theft coverage applies only if there is sign of forcible entry.
